7. FINAL NOTE

As is obvious from the foregoing description, the intervals between successive events are coded in decimal form, while the events are defined in hexadecimal form). There are two reasons for this seemingly awkward dichotomy. Firstly, events defined by TYPE and QUALIFIER could be coded in many ways so that there is no special advantage in using decimal notations. Secondly, it would be advantageous to code all numbers in hexadecimal (because this would save some space), but the user of these files might find hexadecimal times hard to decipher.
